Invalid default billing handle when updating a domain

Symptoms
When trying to update a domain the following error is being thrown:
Invalid default billing handle!
Cause
Software issue. Billing handle is being passed to API calls of domains whose extensions don't support this type of a handle.
Workaround
Navigate to Account > Settings > Default domain contacts page and set a default billing handle.
