# .dk This article describes the procedures and requirements of .dk domain names. Click on the subject below to open the dropdown for more information.
Registration Successful domain registration via [RCP](https://cp.openprovider.eu/web/action/index#/domain/register), [XML API](https://doc.openprovider.eu/API_Module_Domain_createDomainRequest), or [REST API](https://docs.openprovider.com/doc/domain.swagger#operation/CreateDomain) requires: - Valid tax number (for individuals) and VAT number (for companies) in the domain owner/ registrant and admin contact handles - Domain nameservers [must be registered with the DK registry](https://punktum.dk/en/articles/name-server-administration) before use - Domain activation within 4 days of successful registration (**see Activation below**) - Successful ID validation by the registry ### **Registration period** From 1 July 2026, .dk domains can only be registered for 1 year at a time. Multi-year registrations are no longer available.   ### **Activation** After registration, the DK registry emails the domain owner/ registrant a user ID and password with instructions to complete a data control, and in some cases an ID control, via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). If the domain owner/ registrant has previously completed a successful ID and data check, the domain activates immediately. This applies to both registrar-managed and registrant-managed domains. Openprovider cannot assist with activation except in one case: for foreign companies or individuals required to submit ID documentation, Openprovider can submit this on their behalf. #### Important: - The domain owner/ registrant has 30 days to complete the ID and data control. Failure results in a 30-day suspension, followed by deletion on day 31. - For rejected documentation: domain is suspended on the day of rejection with 30 days to resubmit. - If an invalid email is supplied in the domain owner/ registrant handle, activation is not possible until the activation period expires. - Deleted domains can be re-registered by anyone. Openprovider does not refund registration fees for deleted domains. ### **Contact handles** From 1 July 2026, new .dk domains are registered under the registrar model only. The registry only accepts the domain owner/ registrant contact handle for registrar-managed domains. If additional handles (admin, tech, billing) are submitted in the registration request, Openprovider will pass only the domain owner/ registrant handle to the registry. No changes to your registration workflow are required. ### **Nameservers** Openprovider nameservers (ns1.openprovider.nl, ns2.openprovider.be, ns3.openprovider.eu) are already registered with Punktum DK and can be used without any additional steps.  If you wish to use custom nameservers, these must be registered with the DK registry before use.  Under the registrar model, the technical handle nameserver manager appointment is no longer required.  ### **ID validation** - Documents must be submitted in English or Danish. Documents in other languages must be accompanied by a certified translation. - For companies, the document must include the company name and address. - If ID validation fails, the domain will be deactivated and deleted after 1 month. The registry does not issue refunds in this case. ### dk\_acceptance parameter (required from January 2025) All .dk registrations must include domain owner/ registrant acceptance of terms: - REST API: include dk\_acceptance: 1 in the additional\_data object of the createDomain request - XML API: include dkAcceptance: 1 in the same object - Your frontend must display a mandatory checkbox for the domain owner/ registrant to accept Terms and Conditions before submitting Registrations without these parameters will fail. Important: The Registry has provided specific guidelines and an ideal implementation model for your reference: - \[[Requirements, refer to Method 1 (Flow 1) and How to - Method 1](https://punktum.dk/en/articles/implementation-guide-for-registration-of-dk-for-registrars)\] - \[[Ideal Implementation Model](https://punktum.dk/sites/default/files/inline-images/implementeringsguide_metode_1_EN.png)\] ### NIS2 identity verification (effective July 2025) - Verification is required at registration only — not ongoing - Either email address or phone number must be validated — one is sufficient - One-time verification applies if the domain/ owner registrant holds multiple domains - 72-hour exception: domains may be activated before verification for up to 72 hours, after which they must be verified or will be suspended ## WHOIS visibility for companies (effective July 2025) The following fields are publicly visible in WHOIS for company registrants: - Company name and address - Phone number (unless marked private) - Email address (must not contain personal data)
Transfer **Registrant-managed domains ** Transfers can be initiated via RCP, XML API, or REST API. No auth-code is required. By submitting the transfer request, Openprovider is automatically assigned as the payer (billing contact handle) for the domain. The transfer completes in real time. Important: Selecting Openprovider as payer (billing contact handle) manually in the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk) does not trigger a transfer. It must be initiated from the Openprovider RCP or API. After transfer, domain owner/ registrant and other contact details will not be updated automatically. Nameservers will not be updated. Any updates to domain details must be initiated via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). See the Update section for details. You can check the current status of a domain or its nameservers here: punktum.dk/en/search-dk-domain **Registrar-managed domains** Transfer IN for domains currently under registrar management at another registrar is **not yet supported**. Auth-code transfer support is in development and expected by end of November 2026. We will update this section when available. If you attempt to transfer such a domain, you will receive the following error: "Specifying contacts for registrar managed domains is not allowed" This means the domain is currently registrar-managed elsewhere. You may wait for auth-code transfer support to be available. ### Error handling Error code 399 — "No privilege" This typically indicates the domain is registrant-managed and has outstanding unpaid invoice(s) at the registry. The domain owner/ registrant must log in to the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk), pay the invoice, and then the transfer can be initiated. If the issue persists after payment, please contact our support team ### Additional notes on a .dk transfer Registrant removes Openprovider as payer (registrant-managed domains only) Domain owners/ Registrants have the option to remove Openprovider as payer (billing contact handle) via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). As Openprovider does not receive real-time notifications from the registry, the domain may continue to show as active in your control panel after this change. To resolve: remove the domain from your control panel and initiate a new transfer. Openprovider will automatically be reassigned as payer (billing contact handle). Transfer after expiry If a transfer is completed after the domain has expired at the previous registrar, auto-renewal will be enabled automatically for the domain regardless of your account settings. You can change this from the domain detail page.

Outgoing transfer Registrant-managed domains Openprovider cannot provide auth-codes for outgoing transfers of registrant-managed .dk domains. The gaining registrar can initiate the transfer without an auth-code and will automatically be assigned the payer role (billing contact handle) for the domain. As Openprovider will not receive real-time notifications from the DK registry, a transferred-out domain may continue to appear as active in your control panel temporarily. No action is required — the system will update when the registry processes the change. Registrar-managed domains Auth-code generation for outgoing transfers of registrar-managed .dk domains is expected by the end of November 2026. Once live, resellers will be able to generate an auth-code directly from the domain detail page and provide it to the gaining registrar to initiate the transfer.
Update ### Owner change (trade) ### Domain owner/ Registrant change (TRADE) - For registrant-managed domains, TRADE must be requested through the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). Detailed instructions can be found [here](https://punktum.dk/en/faq/how-do-i-transfer-a-domain-name). - For registrar-managed domains, TRADE support is currently under review. We will update this section when available. Note: Domain owner/ registrant name, company name, and VAT number updates are considered a TRADE operation. ### Other update Registrar-managed domains Nameserver updates can be initiated directly through Openprovider via RCP or API. No action at the registry portal is required. Note: Custom nameservers must be registered with the DK registry before use. Openprovider nameservers (ns1.openprovider.nl, ns2.openprovider.be, ns3.openprovider.eu) are already registered and can be used without any additional steps. Registrant-managed domains Openprovider cannot update nameservers for registrant-managed domains. Updates must be initiated directly by the domain owner/ registrant or nameserver administrator: - Via the domain owner/ registrant: Log in to the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk) and navigate to https://self-service.punktum.dk/domain/DOMAIN.DK/change\_name\_server — replace DOMAIN.DK with the relevant domain name. Note that a new DNS zone must be configured on the new nameserver before making this change. - Via the nameserver administrator: Contact your nameserver administrator to initiate a pull request for the nameserver update. ### Contact updates Registrar-managed domains Email address, phone number, and postal address can be updated through Openprovider via RCP or API. Registrant-managed domains Contact handle updates must be made by the domain owner/ registrant directly via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). Domain owners/ Registrants can log in using MitID, user ID, or email.
Deletion / Restore ### Delete Registrant-managed domains Deletion must be requested by the domain owner/ registrant or admin contact directly via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). Openprovider cannot delete registrant-managed .dk domains. Important: Removing a domain from your Openprovider control panel or letting it expire does not delete it at the registry. The domain owner/ registrant will continue receiving renewal invoices directly from registry until the domain is explicitly deleted via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk).. Openprovider cannot intervene in this process. For billing queries, the domain/ owner registrant should contact the registry directly at punktum.dk/en/contact-customer-service. Registrar-managed domains Deletion support for registrar-managed domains is being finalised. We will update this section when available. ### Restore / reactivate Registrant-managed domains If a domain has expired due to a missed payment and has not been explicitly deleted, it can be restored via the [Punktum DK self-service portal](http://self-service.punktum.dk). If a domain has been explicitly deleted, restoration is not possible. Registrar-managed domains Restore support for registrar-managed domains is being finalised. We will update this section when available
