What are the different phases on New gTLDs registration?
Answer
When a new gTLD is available, there are two or three phases to register the domain: Sunrise, Landrush (not always) and General Availability.
Sunrise
During the Sunrise, owners can submit their registrations. To submit a domain during Sunrise a TMCH registration is required. Often the domain will not immediately be registered on your behalf, but the registry may gather all requests and have an auction at the end of the Sunrise period if multiple applications exist for the same name. Price on Sunrise phase is expensive than usual price.
Landrush
During the Landrush anyone can submit a request for a specific domain. Just like the Sunrise the domain will usually not be immediately registered, but auctioned at the end of the Landrush period.
General Availability/Claims
During the General Availability period anyone can submit a registration for the TLD. These registrations will usually be processed immediately and the owner can start using it right away. During the first 90 days of a TLDs existence there will also be a Claims period. During this time trademark holders will be notified if a registered term is registered as a domain name. Please note that we will request explicit approval from the Registrant if a registered trademark is found, informing the Registrant of the trademark.
During the General Availability phase the domains can not be transferred, only after this period will the domains be free to transfer to any Registrar you may wish.

Can I cancel my pre-registration?

How to cancel the pre-registered domains?
Answer
As long as a pre-registration is not prepared to be registered (which is shortly before the opening of the General Availability), you can delete the pre-registration from your account and you will not be charged.
In order to delete the pre-registration you need to follow the instructions:
1. Go to New gTLDs overview
2. Mark the pre-registrations you want to cancel.
3. Click on Delete selected domains on list

Can I get my own extension?

Is it possible to get my own extension?
Answer
Now the internet is flooded with all kinds of new extensions, generic ones (.email, .club) but also trade and brand names (.bnpparibas, .samsung), the question arises if everyone can get his own extension (new gTLD).
For example, we may want to apply for .openprovider, so that we can register domain names like support.openprovider or cp.openprovider. Then, we're not bound to an "old" extension like .nl anymore. 
So, can everyone get its own extension? The short answer is "yes", but it comes with a number of "however"s.
Timing
First of all, ICANN is far from ready to open a new round for applications. The latest information is that it will not happen before 2021. So be patient... An application can be prepared already, but a lot of information is just not yet known.
Costs
Also important: it's not cheap. The 2012 round came with a $185.000 application fee and a commitment to pay at least 10 years $25.000 per year. Those are just the ICANN fees. Composing an application document takes a lot of time as well, and time is money.
Depending on what kind of extension you want to apply for (your brand name or a generic that will be available to the wide public), you need more resources. If you intend to launch an open extension, you need to sell it: this requires people for sales, marketing, support, ...
We can't set a fixed price label, but we've heard rumours that the absolute minimum is around half a million dollars.
Application process
Being aware of the above, it is absolutely possible to apply for your own extension. Because there are many rules to follow and every application requires tailoring, we cannot provide you with a full checklist here. Please contact us to see how we can help you.

Can I register a domain in Sunrise that includes my trademark?

Can I register a domain in Sunrise that includes my trademark?
Answer
No, this is not possible. In the Sunrise, the domain name should exactly match your trademark or one of its labels. If you own a trademark 'Apple', you can register apple.forum but not applehelp.forum (that would require the trademark "Apple Help").
For a registration of a domain that includes your trademark (but is not an exact match), you will have to wait until the Sunrise is over and register the domain in one of the phases following the Sunrise phase. Refer to the launch calendar to investigate your options. You may be able to register the domain in Landrush or Early Access Program phases.
You can also submit your domain as a pre-registration. Openprovider will then send your application to the registry as soon as the General Availability opens.

Can I register any new gTLD?

Is it possible to register any new gTLD?
Answer
No. First of all, there are many TLDs that are closed: no registration services will be offered. Examples are brand TLDs (.bmw), or TLDs intended for own use (several TLDs applied for by Amazon or Google).
The TLDs which will be available for registration might have their own restrictions. For example a local presence for a geographic gTLD, or being group of the community for community TLDs like .dentist or .lawyer.
However, there are many TLDs that will be open to everyone. Here we will publish a list of TLDs and their relevant information, and update it when more information is available.

Can I register my company name in the Sunrise?

Can I register my company name in the Sunrise?
Answer
Yes, as long as your company name is a registered trademark and the registrant meets the registry's eligibility criteria. The Sunrise phase only accepts domain names that are identical matches of a trademark.
Validated trademark: do you have a trademark and is that trademark validated by the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH)? Then you can register your domain in Sunrise using the SMD file (Signed Mark Data) that you have received from your TMCH agent.
Non-validated trademark: do you have a trademark but was that trademark not yet validated by the TMCH? Then first order a TMCH validation through Openprovider and use the SMD file to order your domain in Sunrise. Note that validation of your trademark can take up to a week, so start your validation and registration request timely.
The name includes my trademark: if the intended domain name is not an exact match of your trademark, but rather includes it (e.g. "applehelp.forum" if your trademark is "Apple"), then you cannot register your domain in Sunrise.
No trademark: if your company name is no trademark, you cannot register your domain in the Sunrise phase.
Alternatives
If your domain name is not eligible for Sunrise but meets the registry's eligibility requirements, then you can register your domain in one of the phases following the Sunrise phase. Refer to the launch calendar to investigate your options. You may be able to register the domain in Landrush or Early Access Program phases.
You can also submit your domain as a pre-registration. Openprovider will then send your application to the registry as soon as the General Availability opens.

How do I customize the Trademark Claims Notification e-mail?

How do I customize the Trademark Claims Notification e-mail?

In some cases Openprovider is obliged to send a Trademark Claims Notification (TCN). It is possible to personalize this e-mail and the page on which the customer acknowledges the registration. By setting up your own confirmation page, your customer does not have to leave your website.
Configuration of e-mail
Log in to the control panel and navigate to the menu Account > Settings to configure your TCN branding. The Confirmation link can be used to lead the registrant to your own website. This confirmation link can be anything, as long as you include the following two or three variables:

Handling TCN responses
Basically, your script should call the callback script of Openprovider with the right variables: domainId, authCode and approval. (The variable domain is not used in the call to Openprovider.) The approval variable should contain yes or no:

There are many ways to accomplish this, one of the approaches is written in an example PHP script below. This script displays a very basic form and asks for an approval or reject. Having that answer, it calls the Openprovider server:

Is my validated trademark eligible for all extensions in Sunrise?

Is my validated trademark eligible for all extensions in Sunrise?
Answer
No. A validated trademark is a requirement to be eligible for Sunrise, but a registry might have it's own additional eligibility rules.
For example, the registry of a geographic extension .nyc requires that the domain owner is a resident of New York and the .bank registry requires that the domain holder of a .bank domain is a registered bank. If the registrant is not located in New York he cannot register a .nyc domain; if the registrant is not a registered bank, he cannot register a .bank domain.
Note that the trademark holder still benefits from the other Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) features: if a lawyer registers yourtrademark.lawyer during the claims period, the trademark holder of "yourtrademark" will still be notified, even while he himself is not eligible for this specific domain name.

What are premium domains?
In the (new) gTLD program the registries often decide that certain terms or names are to be considered premium. In short this means that popular terms will be more expensive to register than less popular terms.
During the order or transfer process our system will warn you about these higher prices, asking you to confirm that you are aware of the higher price before the registration / transfer can be placed.
Depending on the extension, the domain's renewal may be at the premium fee again, or at the regular registration fee. The extension details pages in this knowledge base show this information for all extensions.

General introduction
As a trademark holder, you may want to protect your name throughout numerous extensions, to prevent others from registering a domain in your name. This is a time consuming and costly exercise. A "protected marks list" service simplifies this exercise by blocking the trademark name in a number of extensions in just one single order at a price that is much lower than registering every domain separately.
We call this a "block". If the trademark name is "Openprovider" and you order a "block" on this trademark name, the respective registries will make all included domains with the name "openprovider" unavailable for registration, e.g. openprovider.email and openprovider.london. This implies that the domain is unavailable for the trademark holder as well! He cannot use it - it's just reserved.
Of course, in case the trademark holder wants to start using a specific domain, he can "override" the block. The domain name will then be released to the trademark holder.
In all cases, a valid and verified trademark is required. Verification must have been done by the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH). The SMD file that the trademark holder gets from the TMCH serves as the leading input for the Protected Marks List order. Each of the labels in the SMD file can serve as name to be blocked. During the full period of the Protected Marks List order, the trademark must remain verified; if not, the block may be cancelled.

Donuts' DPML
Registry Donuts is the world's largest portfolio registry, managing more than 240 domain extensions. As soon as Donuts acquires an additional extension, it will be added to their DPML (Domains Protected Marks List) automatically.
Apart from the exact match of the trademark name, DPML can also be ordered for a term that includes that trademark name. The following table lists the options:

Each term counts as a separate DPML order. Premium and already registered domain names will not be included in the block.
Homograph protection
Donuts does not only protect the exact term that you specify. In addition, Donuts finds all Unicode characters which are confusingly similar to characters in the protected name (so-called homographs), and block all these variants as well. For example, a phisher may use the domain name gοοgle.com which looks legitimate - until you discover that the two O’s are actually Cyrillic characters. Hard to spot, even if you are trained to look for it.
This feature is enabled on all DPML orders, also the ones that were ordered before its introduction in September 2018.
Overrides
As a DPML block owner, you can at any moment override (start using) a domain that is included in the block. Contact us if you want to override one of your own names.
If you are not the DPML block owner, but you own a (verified) trademark that exactly matches the blocked term, you can override someone else's DPML block by submitting the SMD file. Contact us for more information.
No additional fees are charged for overrides.
Donuts' DPML Plus
The DPML Plus service of Donuts is an extension to the basic DPML service. The differences are the following:
The validity period is 10 years
The price is different
The exact match of the trademark plus 3 additional labels; a label being a term that includes the trademark name (as illustrated in the table above) or a common misspelling of the trademark name
Additional labels (without maximum) can be added at a price of $1.700 each
Premium names will be included in the block, as long as they have not been registered yet
Overrides by other parties with the same trademark are not allowed unless the DPML Plus block owner explicitly consents
Uni EPS
Update 2021-06-01: From the 1st of June 2021, Registry UNR reduced the offering of their UniEPS service. Only 10 (out of the original 23) extensions are included and the price reduced to $229. Existing orders will include all 23 original extensions until the next renewal date.
Registry and back-end provider UNR (former Uniregistry) manages a few dozen extensions and offers its platform to other registries as well. Each registry using the UNR platform may choose to add its extension(s) to the Uni EPS service.
The Uni EPS service covers standard and premium domains. Domains that are already registered at the moment the block is ordered are not included, but as soon as such domain is cancelled, it will be added to the block.
Overrides
As a Uni EPS block owner, you can at any moment override (start using) a domain that is included in the block. At the moment of the override, the domain is converted to a normal registration. The normal registration fee is charged and the domain's life cycle starts from the moment of the override. Contact us if you want to override one of your own names.
If you are not the Uni EPS block owner, but you own a (verified) trademark that exactly matches the blocked term, you can override someone else's Uni EPS block by submitting the SMD file. Contact us for more information.

Uni EPS+
The Uni EPS+ service of UNR is an extension to the basic Uni EPS service. The differences are the following:
Uni EPS+ includes all Unicode IDN variants free of charge
Uni EPS+ includes all additional labels in the SMD file

AdultBlock
ICM Registry manages four different adult-themed extensions: .xxx, .adult, .porn and .sex. The AdultBlock service covers standard and premium domains. Domains that are already registered at the moment the block is ordered are not included, but as soon as such domain is cancelled, it will be added to the block.
AdultBlock is available not only for trademark holders that let their trademark verify through TMCH, but also to protect your name if it is

If the applicant does not complete or finalize an AdultBlock Services registration, ICM Registry will charge the verification fees (normally those verification fees are included in the AdultBlock fee). Those fees are $50,00.

Every new extension that launches, starts with a period of at least 90 days in which trademark holders are protected against others registering a domain that matches their trademark: the so-called "Trademark Claims Period" (TCN). During this period, the intended domain holder is informed about the existence of the trademark, and if he chooses to continue the registration, the trademark holder will receive a notification that the domain was registered.
Note that this period is arbitrary: the minimum length is 90 days, but there are several extensions that decided to extend this period forever.
Trademark claims notification
From the domain registrant's perspective, the process when registering a domain that matches a validated trademark is the following:
The domain name is ordered in Openprovider
The domain name is put on status "REQ" (requested) and the order is put on hold
The intended registrant receives an e-mail with information about the matching trademark, and a link to acknowledge this information
If the intended registrant decides that he does not infringe third party's rights, he can continue the domain registration
The domain is registered and marked "ACT" (active) in Openprovider

Domain registration notifications
From the trademark holder's perspective, the benefit is that he is informed as soon as somebody registers a domain that matches his trademark.
The trademark holder can then investigate the domain name and decide whether or not the domain holder infringes his rights. If so, the trademark holder can decide to start a legal procedure. Note that in most cases the registration itself is no valid ground for starting a legal procedure - there should be clear evidence of infringement of rights.
This notification service thus is nothing more than that: it does only inform about a registered domain but does not judge about the legal status of it.
Ongoing notifications
The Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH) extended it's service and does not only send notifications during an extension's TCN, but also afterwards. On top of that, they included all existing gTLDs (.com, .net, etc.) as well.
This means that the holder of a trademark in the TMCH will receive notifications for any gTLD registration of his trademark. On the IANA website you can find the list of extensions in the root zones; the ones marked "generic" or "sponsored" all apply to the TCN.

What is the process / workflow of pre-registration?
The good thing about pre-registrations is that you can already collect your customer's orders before the extension is available. These pre-registrations are free of charge and non-binding, until the moment they turn into 'real' registrations. This article describes the workflow that is followed for pre-registrations.
Initial information e-mail
4 to 6 weeks before the General Availability of an extension starts we send you an e-mail with all information about prices, dates, procedures and policies. The e-mail also informs you on which date the pre-registrations will turn into real registrations ('locking' of the domains; normally ±5 days before the General Availability starts). The e-mail contains a lot of information, including:
An overview of your pre-registrations; if a domain is marked Premium or Blocked, we will not process it in the pre-registration process and the domain is cancelled in your account. A list of those domains is in the e-mail.
Exact dates and times of the launch schedule; this includes Sunrise, Landrush, General Availability and any other launch phases,
Full pricing details of the extensions; this is tailored to your price tier in Openprovider, so might be subject to change if you move to another tier before General Availability starts.
The total amount to be charged to your account (based on the current domain list and the current price tier of your account).
Registry policies and restrictions; examples are a required local presence, limited character sets or other eligibility requirements.

Final reminder
Some 5 days before we lock the domain names, you will receive a final reminder. The locking date is reminded and you are informed that these are the last days for making any changes to you domain (including remove it from the pre-registration queue).
Status update locking
Around 2 working days before the General Availability starts, we 'lock' the domains for further changes. This means that existing pre-registrations can no longer be changed or removed. New pre-registrations can still be ordered until a few hours before the General Availability starts. The pre-registrations are charged on your account balance.
You will receive an e-mail with an update, for example domains that could not be turned into real registrations because of insufficient balance.
Those last 2 days we will prepare the pre-registrations for their registration in the registry systems. We will create the contact and nameserver objects at the registry, generate the registration commands, ensure that the registry is ready and any other actions that will lead to the maximum speed of registration at the moment the registry opens.
Trademark Claims Notifications
If a domain name matches a trademark that is registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH), we are obliged to send a Trademark Claims Notification to the domain holder. This e-mail contains a list of matching trademarks and asks the domain holder for an explicit approval before being able to register the domain. With his approval, the domain holder declares that he is aware of those trademarks and knows that he might infringe a third party's rights on that name.
You will receive an overview of all domains for which a Trademark Claims Notification (TCN) is sent; you might want to ask you customer to handle this e-mail urgently.
The TCN's are typically sent 24 to 48 hours before the General Availability opens.

Status update registrations
Once the General Availability started and we sent all registration requests to the registry, we will inform you about the results. All successful registrations are listed as well as unsuccessful registrations, including the reason for failure.
From this moment on, the extension is moved to 'live' and can be registered as any other extension; in most cases realtime. Note that during the first 90 days (or more, depending on the registry), a Trademark Claims Notification might be required if a domain name matches a trademark that was registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse.

En caso que haya dos empresas que quieran registrar el mismo nombre de una marca, dependerá del registro el cómo manejar las peticiones duplicadas: quizá deciden darle la marca al que la solicitó primero, o al primero que ellos atiendan, o incluso quizá deciden seguir una acción diferente.
En general, el precio para el registro en fase “Sunrise” es más elevado que el precio durante el periodo de disponibilidad general, pero le da la opción de ser el primero en poder registrar el dominio.
Período de reclamaciones y período de disponibilidad general
 En cuanto el período “Sunrise” finalice, el TLD quedará abierto para el resto de público, aunque todavía se aplicarán algunas restricciones (presencia local, miembro de la comunidad…). Este período se llama “disponibilidad general”. Losprimeros 90 días(o más, dependiendo del registro) de la disponibilidad general se conoce como elperíodo de reclamaciones.Durante este periodo, cada registro de dominio se comprueba con labase de datos del Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH). Si no se encuentra una marca que coincida, el titular recibirá unanotificacióny podrá decidir si continúa o no con el registro del dominio. El titular de la marca recibe una notificación en cuanto se ha registrado el dominio, y puede ponerse en contacto con la entidad registradora si cree que hay una infracción que tenga que ver con su marca registrada.
